I used to have Doom on the SNES. I actually quite liked it, but I could never finish the first or second level. Probably because I was 7 and didn't have the analytical capacity to work out that you needed to do that in order for that to happen, or to remember where all the enemies were.
I also found it quite scary, with the demons and zombies and gore. Luckily my mother never saw me playing it, otherwise I don't think I would have seen it again. Maybe that was when I initially learned the need to be secretive when playing video games...
However, for such an old game, it was quite fun. I loved the graphics back then, even though I could see that they weren't that good. I can remember admiring them for being able to do as much as they did, having to program it all in, not just film it like they did for the TV.
I havent played it for about 5 years though. My Luddite mother seems to have sold off (or thrown out) our beloved SNES, leaving me with only the X-box and computer for company... *sniff*
